Walking the hills of Florence

Among the many reasons that make Florence unique is that of having a photogenic and unspoiled countryside at it’s doors. We will walk straight out of the city center up the hill where jesters and musicians performed and where Galileo lived. Breathtaking views and fascinating stories of Florence will guide us through the countryside with it's typical olive groves, vineyards and cypress trees bears witness to the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.

Broad views of Florence will guide us to experience Fiesole in a way unknown to tourists. The Etruscan hill top town, is renown for its exclusive villas and Roman amphitheatre. We climb the wooded path amidst ancient quarries of "pietra serena”, the stone used to build the palazzi of Florence, up to the mount renown for Leonardo da Vinci’s flying experiments.

Artisan walks

Meet artisans in their Florentine workshops, learn about their art and get a first hand and experience of their workmanship. Sculpture, ceramics,  woodcarving, blacksmanship, weaving and basket-weaving are among the many arts and crafts kept alive today in the region. The itinerary will be planned to your particular interest.


Stepping out of the city

Encounter the beauty of the undulating landscape dotted with vineyards, olive trees and Tuscan villas and shaped by centuries of attentive husbandry and cultivation, resonates like the pages of an open history book.
Along our walks we will meet local producers attentive to the principles of SlowFood and organic farming: wine and olive oil, cheese, cured meats, honey, gelato and aromatic herbs. .

The red roofs, tabernacles, vases for lemon trees,  “orci” for olive oil storage, brick tiling decorating country houses as well as villas, all are made from the precious clay of Impruneta and by the skilful hands of its craftsmen. We will visit a kiln where “cotto” is produced in the most traditional of ways before walking to a small organic olive oil producer for a private tasting/lunch /cooking class.

Walking along the rows of vines surrounded by dry stacked stone walls, olive groves and woods with a local guide is the best way to savor the area. Along the way you will learn about the history of the land and have fascinating insights into the wild foods of the season, as well as stop  to meet outstanding yet small organic producers distinguishing themselves for high quality products, respecting the local age-old traditions and supporting sustainable agriculture. You will be delighted by owner-led tastings of premium wines and genuine goat cheese.

Pilgrim’s footsteps

For millennia pilgrims have travelled to honor the Madonna in her sanctuaries, as well as to St. Francis’ hermitage at La Verna, St. Romualdo’s in Camaldoli, St. Gualberto’s in Vallombrosa. Many others reached Rome along the via Francigena and via Romea. With a medieval road underfoot and a monastery as our destination, we will explore the beauty of these sacred and protected areas seemingly untouched by time.

Mindfulness walks

While enjoying the beautiful Tuscan countryside you will be guided to the basic practice of mindfulness in order to become more aware of the present moment. Practicing mindful walking allows us to bring our mind home to our body. As we hike through nature each step becomes nourishing and healing.

Children’s day in Chianti

A museum-free outing for families with children and a unique opportunity to visit a Tuscan farm. Children will become familiar with the vegetables and aromatic herbs of a typical “orto” (vegetable garden), meet the animals, play outdoor traditional games, have a picnic lunch with delicious home made products.
